The islands of Yap and the atoll of Ulithi in Yap State, FSM remain as some of the most unique locations on our planet where deep seated Pacific cultures still drive the lives of many to this day. Alas this way of life is under threat. As an Emmy Award winning cinematographer I am looking to raise awareness in this location by way of a planned documentary entitled "The Sharks of the Forgotten islands". As a way of looking to generate enough funds for the documentary which touches on the natural History of the region, the Wildlife, the People and the Culture I plan to offer an escorted trip in the most unique of ways for a handful of people.
I have spoken with the traditional navigation society of Yap island and have secured two traditional sailing canoes for a 17 day trek from Yap Island to the Ulithi atoll, a distance of 115 nautical miles. Once there we will circumnavigate the fourth largest atoll in the World during which time we will engage with a host of activities in running with and reflecting the daily lives of the locals. Wearing loincloths and traditional attire we will spearfish for our supplemented food. We will live on deserted islands with local guides showing us how to live from the land. We will visit turtle nesting beaches and hunt for coconut crabs. We will see what it means to live, to truly live.
This whole event will be filmed and edited to a memorable DVD souvenir of the trip of which there are just seven available spots.
The plan is to meet on the island of Yap on Sunday, August 4th 2013

The documentary will touch on the planned massive development of resorts, casino's and golf courses on an island that can hardly sustain itself let alone a required workforce for the construction phase that will outnumber the indigenous population by an estimated 110%. It is a documentary that will also touch on the rife illegal fishing on atolls and outer islands that spread across a region the size of France and on the very real threat of global Ocean level rise.
